Cisco Systems Inc.

Water dependencyLow

Cisco Systems is a U.S.-based technology company headquartered in San Jose, California. It provides networking hardware, cybersecurity, collaboration tools, cloud systems, and internet infrastructure. Led by Chairman and CEO Chuck Robbins, Cisco's reliance on suppliers, electronics manufacturing, campuses, and technology infrastructure makes water use a key factor in its ESG performance.

Cisco has extended water stewardship to its supply chain. In fiscal 2024, Cisco joined the AWS Impact Accelerator project at nine sites in the Wusong River basin in China. The project supported participating sites in understanding their shared catchment and preparing for AWS Standard certification. Cisco also hosted a water field trip at China's Qiandao Lake for high-water-consuming suppliers to promote wetland and water source protection and basin-level collaboration.

Cisco's technology also contributes to water sustainability. In Belgium, Cisco helped Compagnie Intercommunale Liégeoise des Eaux build an IoT telecom network for a smart water system spanning 3,500 kilometers of pipes. This system improves operational efficiency and decision-making for a public utility serving about half a million people. Cisco also supported Charity: Water's AI-powered system, which uses rural water pump sensor data to predict pump failures.
