Keurig Dr Pepper Inc.

Water dependencyVery High

Keurig Dr Pepper is a US-based beverage company with headquarters in Burlington, Massachusetts, and Frisco, Texas. The company's main products are coffee and other coffee products, soft drinks, and various other beverages, including those branded under KDP's trademarks, such as Keurig, Dr Pepper, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Canada Dry, Snapple, and Mott's. As water is an essential component in most of the company's products and beverages, addressing water-related risks is an integral part of the company's ESG strategy.

The company's primary approach to water sustainability is reflected in its watershed-based water replenishment strategy, representing the company's commitment to restoring water resources in basins with limited water supplies. KDP's water strategy consists of three primary elements, namely, securing water resources, optimizing water use, and water replenishment, all of which contribute to the sustainability of the company's operations, as well as the environment and society.

An impressive example of KDP's water replenishment efforts is its contribution to the creation of wetlands in the Trinity River Basin in Texas. Due to the area's limited water supply, there were not enough natural water sources for the local animals and ecosystem to survive the dry season. Through the collaboration with Ducks Unlimited, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and Texas Water Action Collaborative, the company participated in constructing 111 acres of wetlands within the Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area. The wetlands, fitted with water retention structures, were designed to store water, improving the quality and quantity of the water in the nearby streams, as well as providing a habitat for wildlife. Although the project completion date was scheduled for the end of 2024, in 2025, the wetlands stored around 345 million liters of water during four flood events, which are expected to be beneficial for the Trinity River.

Aside from this large-scale initiative, KDP reported a substantial increase in water replenishment in 2025, represented by 3,283 megaliters (866 million gallons) of water impacted by the company's water-replenishment initiatives. Comparing the results of 2025 to those of 2024, an increase of 9% was reported. In 2025, 62% of the water impacted in 2025 was replenished in Texas, whereas 70% of the water replenished in 2024 belonged to that state. Although KDP's impact on water sustainability in Texas appears considerable, the increase in the volume of water affected by the company's operations witnessed a decrease in the percentage of water replenished by KDP. Particularly, the company's water-replenishment efforts were made in one additional site, and production was increased at five sites, contributing to a higher input of water into the local ecosystems.

Although the company appears to be transparent about its impact on local water resources, a decrease in the efficiency of its water-use practices is reflected in the increase in water intensity from 1.91 in 2024 to 2.03 in 2025.
