Mondelez International is a snack company based in Chicago, Illinois. It was formed in 2012 after the split of Kraft Foods but has origins in previous food companies. Mondelez makes chocolate, biscuits, gum, candy and other snacks sold around the world. Some of its big brands are Oreo, Ritz, Cadbury, Toblerone, Trident and Clif Bar. As Mondelez is reliant on farming and food production, water use is a big part of its ESG performance.

The company's ESG strategy, "Snacking Made Right," is geared towards increasing the sustainability of its agricultural processes while supporting responsible consumption and production of its products. Mondelez has prioritized being at the forefront of water management in the communities around its 19 manufacturing facilities. Despite the company's effort to develop global targets for its supply chain, it has set the agenda for sites with water risk and identified priority sites where water is limited and vulnerable to scarcity.

Mondelez has invested in water-saving technologies at its manufacturing facilities to ensure that it meets its target of reducing water consumption by 22% at its priority sites by 2030. In its Gebze facility, Mondelez reduced the amount of water used in dough fermentation chambers by 2000 cubic meters after replacing water injection with steam injection. The Fallingbostel plant was able to save 10,000 cubic meters of water after it automated washing of cheese containers. In the Namur facility, Mondelez developed a new Clean-In-Place (CIP) Looping Station that helps recycle water from the final rinse for use in other rinses.

Its ten sites worldwide harvest rainwater, and 24 facilities recycle water from their wastewater treatment plants. Overall, Mondelez's water intensity dropped by 5% in 2025 as a result of the combined effect of the water-saving technologies it has adopted. For instance, the Ringwood site in Australia decreased its water-use intensity by 23% in 2025.
