NVIDIA Corporation is a U.S.-based semiconductor and accelerated computing company headquartered in Santa Clara, California. The company designs GPUs, AI systems, data center platforms, automotive technologies, and software tools. As NVIDIA supports AI infrastructure and data center growth, its water use is linked to its facilities, cooling systems, and broader technology ecosystem.
NVIDIA's most notable water sustainability achievement is its use of reclaimed and recycled water at major facilities. At its Santa Clara headquarters, two LEED Gold buildings use recycled water for toilet flushing and reclaimed water for cooling towers and landscape irrigation. The three-acre park connecting the buildings features drought-tolerant trees and is irrigated with reclaimed water.
NVIDIA's Hyderabad, India site provides another strong example. The company operates a water treatment plant there that reuses treated wastewater for landscape irrigation. This reduces demand for freshwater in a water-stressed country and demonstrates a direct operational impact. NVIDIA also captures rainwater in bioswales and uses reclaimed water for cooling and irrigation.
NVIDIA also reported a data center water efficiency initiative. In FY25, the company introduced closed-loop liquid cooling systems across its data centers to reduce water use and improve cooling efficiency. These systems circulate engineered fluid in a sealed loop, minimizing the need for evaporative cooling. The NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 rack-scale liquid-cooled system reportedly delivers 300 times greater water efficiency than traditional air-cooled architectures. This represents the most significant water efficiency improvement related to NVIDIA's AI infrastructure.
NVIDIA's water-related impact extends through Clearbot, a startup that uses NVIDIA Jetson technology for autonomous waterway cleanup. Clearbot's electric boats identify and collect floating waste from waterways while generating geotagged pollution data. In India, Clearbot removed 1.2 tons of waste per month in Nongstoin and collected 15 tons from Umiam Lake over three months. This demonstrates how NVIDIA technology can support cleaner waterways beyond its core business.
