Oracle is a U.S.-based technology company that provides cloud infrastructure, database software, enterprise applications, and hardware systems. Due to its extensive operations, including offices, facilities, data centers, and hardware-related activities, water use is a significant aspect of Oracle's environmental performance.
Oracle's most notable water sustainability achievement is the reduction of potable water use while maintaining large-scale water recycling initiatives. In FY25, Oracle consumed 801.9 million liters of potable water, a decrease from 823.8 million liters in FY24. This reduction of approximately 21.9 million liters, or 2.7%, was accompanied by a decrease in potable water use intensity from 43 to 42 liters per square foot. Water conservation measures implemented by Oracle include rainwater harvesting, xeriscape gardening, and condensate reclamation at facilities and data centers. These strategies reduce demand for potable water and decrease reliance on conventional water sources. In FY25, Oracle reported 377.8 million liters of recycled water, representing approximately 47.1% of its potable water use.
Oracle contributed to water-related community and ecosystem projects through various initiatives. In India, Health grants facilitated expanded access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services. Grants to organizations such as Sambhav Foundation, Swades Foundation, and Society for All Round Development supported the construction of restrooms, handwashing facilities, and clean water supply systems for numerous schools and households. Oracle Volunteers cleaned waterways and beaches with Ocean Conservancy, supported local creek cleanups with Keep Austin Beautiful, and assisted in watershed protection by constructing storm drains and providing education on water pollution. Additionally, Oracle supported forest restoration in California, where Save the Redwoods League has restored 70,000 acres of degraded redwood forest, thereby enhancing waterway health and forest resilience.
