The Coca-Cola Company

Water dependencyVery High

The Coca-Cola Company is a multinational beverage corporation headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. As one of the largest nonalcoholic beverage companies in the world, Coca-Cola sustains its products with the Coca-Cola brand, Sprite, Fanta, Dasani, smartwater, Minute Maid, Powerade, and other drinks. Because water is the primary ingredient in Coca-Cola Company products and the source of beverage production, the company views water as an essential component of its ESG performance.

The Coca-Cola Company's Zero Drop water recycling initiative in Schimatari, Greece, employs smart technology at the local water treatment plant to recover water from the backwashing process of filters used in water treatment. The process recovers 15% of the facility's raw water, enough to meet the annual demands of around 6500 people. At the same time, the initiative reduces energy consumption by 7 to 10%. In 2025, Coca-Cola completed water stewardship projects at all 19 water-risk facilities. For instance, the company drilled new wells and laid pipelines in Nigeria, while in Benin, it provided sanitation and water infrastructure. In addition, Coca-Cola announced water projects in Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Armenia, Malta, and Italy. In Aegion, a water network upgrade in collaboration with local stakeholders will help reduce water losses by 100 million liters annually. It will happen after the completion of the project, and it will save enough water to meet 1700 people's annual needs.

The Coca-Cola Company reports that in 2025, it installed closed-circuit reverse osmosis, backwashing water recovery, and utility water savings systems. The company improved its water efficiency by increasing the number of facilities applying ISO 46001 water standard, which accounted for 88% of its beverage production sites. All the company's wastewater was treated in its owned or municipal wastewater treatment facilities, and more than 98% of effluent was suitable for aquatic life.
